Arcady Koltun, M.D., Ph.D., Chairman of the Medical Committee for the Russian Body Building Federation, conducted research into anabolic agents that would improve performance, strength, and musculature in Russian kayakers, weightlifters, bodybuilders, and power lifters.

Is Velvet Antler removal safe for the animal?

Every year the male deer looses its antlers. The hard antler from the previous season is cast off and the growth for the new season's velvet crop begins. The velvet is harvested between 55 to 60 days for its medicinal and performance qualities.

Dr. Lindsay Matthews, one of New Zealand's prominent animal behaviorists at the Ruakara Research Center in Hamilton, has studied the behavior of stags during and after velveting.
